Time once again for Terrians on Film. Today's feature is the SUPERMAN movie on the Warner Brothers Network. First of all, who is that stupid frog, and why is he imitating Maryland J. Koba??
Now, on with the review. WOO HOO!!!! This reviewer gives SUPERMAN 6 exosuits out of five - but one got lost in delivery. From the first minute on Krypton, I was impressed. This reviewer is a animation fan (mostly GARGOYLES, REBOOT, and AEON FLUX), and I was very impressed with the quality of the animation. It's obviously the same company that does the BATMAN animated series. Let's hope that the quality of the movie keeps up during the Saturday morning series.
The images of Krypton were incredible. Lots of TRON influences, which pleases our technical director. Little Kal-El seems like a normal baby, not the future SuperKid. Love those green volcanoes as Krypton was destroyed. I guess this doesn't mean that spring is coming. And that spaceship landing (very reminiscent of the transports from S:AAB) was the best lifepod landing since Morgan Martin's! Of course, Jal-El really programmed the ship to go to Planet G889, but the program got cancelled. And, it's nice to see that even Supe needs a VR fix every once in a while, if only to see Mom and Dad.
BRAINIAC, that krazy Kryptonian komputer, vs. Reilly - separated at birth??? Both of them work for a Council that cares more about their own survival, and both of them are totally insane. BRANIAC is even symbolized by three balls.Hmmm... three balls. I guess that's where Reilly's ball went to!
Lois Lane - WOWZA! Move over Teri Hatcher! Dana Delany does more with her voice than Teri does with her whole anorexic body! LL reminded me of Gargs heroine Elisa Maza with PMS. This ain't your father's SUPERMAN!
Now, of course, the subject you've all been waiting for - Lex Luthor. As a HUGE fan of CB's vocal talents, I was impressed. After all, he's the reason I started watching Gargoyles, but I got hooked after the first one. I heard another person who does a lot of voiceover work, Rene Auberjoinois, say that he does a different voice for each character he plays. CB must be doing the same thing. I'd call it somewhere between Hakon the Viking and Tomas Brod from Gargs. Not quite the Kurgan voice. Sigh... I just love a man with a wide vocal range. And, our boy even got to have some fun playing a half-witted version of Popeye! It was a throwaway gag, but we ROFLed! Loved the exosuit, too. ALthough, it looked like a cross between Coyote 5.0 from Gargs and Robocop 2.
Best line - "Nice S" (Lois Lane)
Second best line - "You should give them more information. We don't want people to think you're like that nut in Gotham City." (Mrs. Kent)
That's it for now. Next review... EZ Streets with Debrah Farentino.
