KOBA-TV Reviews Mad About You

With John Gegenhuber

By Ann Brill White

Maryland J. Koba hits the snooze button as our dear General Manager's biological clock goes off...

Hi there! Tonight was a "very special" episode of the NBC hit comedy Mad About You. Why? It wasn't because the starring couple - Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt - was having a baby. It wasn't because half of Hollyweird had cameos, either. It was because our own John Gegenhuber was on the show!

John G. had a small but significant part as the obstetrician of a pushy woman who was trying to have her baby ahead of Jamie Buchman (Helen Hunt). Both of the women and their doctors were intent on getting the "good" delivery room to have their baby in. Our boy had a lively exchange with Jamie's O.B., played by Suzie Plakson - who science-fiction fans will remember as the female Q in Star Trek:Voyager and Worf's lover K'Eylahr on Star Trek:The Next Generation. I wonder if John and Suzie sat around between takes and talked about snapping on the latex? Foreheads, that is! John did very well with his three or four lines. And, he looked so cute in hospital scrubs! The good news is that, since this was a big episode and lots of famous folks were around, MAYBE Mr. Gegenhuber will FINALLY get some much-deserved exposure!!! We can only hope.

This is the first time I've seen Mad About You. It was pretty good, for an NBC sitcom. I can certainly sympathize with the premise about two newly-married people. I might make a point of catching this show in reruns. I was pretty impressed, even if the pacing was a little quick.

In conclusion, Maryland J. Koba gives Mad About You five "good rooms" out of five for a small, but great, performance by John Gegenhuber.
