One good thing that they did was to give the viewer an "update" on where things stood between Caroline - a cartoonist living in NYC - and her beloved, Richard. After many comic trials and tribulations, they finally managed to get together. Which is where the show picked up.
Joey plays Chuckie, one of the four guys from Caroline's past that come back to haunt her while she's in the bathroom preparing to get horizontal with Richard. Chuckie was the first boy that Caroline kissed, which is why he's there. Joey, who seems to have gotten a little taller and darker hair, was almost unrecognizable. For one, they managed somehow to tame that wild, curly hair of his! Second, they managed to make him look geeky in a pre-teen boy kind of way. He was so cute! He also got a lot of the "psycho-babble", explaining to Caroline why the four guys were there. He even got in some of the funniest lines! Namely asking the object of Caroline's teenage crush - her volleyball coach - what "nookie" was. The coach replied, "something that ruins your edge on game day."
After Joey and the guys left, things went downhill faster than the German luge team. Caroline and Richard expose themselves to two of her friends, and much supposed hilarity ensues. They decide to cool off for two months - just in time for those November sweeps! The guy who played Richard was all right, but the John Gegenhuber could have played the part MUCH better. And Lea Thompson was about as flat as her chest as the lead character. The best actor - other than Joey - was Salty, her Himalayan cat.
In all, I give Joey three sets of hornrimmed glasses out of five, for brightening up an entirely dull half-hour.
