KOBA-TV Reviews Seven Days

With John (Gegenhuber) Wollner

Okay, I know... I've been in hibernation lately. So sue me. Anyway, I finally got a chance to sit down and watch one of my favorite actors doing a guest turn on one of my favorite shows - Seven Days. I'll tell ya... the staff here at KOBA-TV really wishes there WAS a Project BACKSTEP. It would save us from ourselves.

John Wollner plays Lloyd Sype, a disgruntled computer geek who worked for a defense contractor. TPTB at the Pentagon chose another company's missile defense system over the one that Lloyd was working on, so he plotted his revenge. He wrote an elaborate computer simulation, and hired two punker kids to "play" his game. What he didn't tell them was that the missile attack was no game - it was the real thing. When the punker guy flies a missile into the Pentagon, Frank Parker is ordered to backstep to stop the attack before it starts.

In Seattle, Frank hooks up with the punker girl, who has some serious abuse issues. She (like all the women in this show) takes a liking to Frank, and eventually tells him what's going on. He contacts the rest of the BACKSTEP team, and they are able to download enough of the simulation before Lloyd cuts it off. Frank takes the punker chick into the secure facility and tells her to play the game against her boyfriend and Lloyd. She succeeds, and stops the attack while Frank locates Lloyd and friend. Lloyd (a real wuss if there ever was one), tries to take the punker dude hostage, but Frank kicks his ass. Once again, the world is safe for democracy.

John W. did an OUTSTANDING job as the disaffected hacker, Lloyd. Trust me, I know enough disaffected geeks that I can tell. Their use of computer simulations to fly the missiles was right on target, no pun intended. This episode was done MUCH better than the X-Files episode "Kill Switch", which it was kind of based on. I was a little disappointed that Lloyd didn't put up more of a fight, but then again, he was a wuss. Please, please, please... SOMEONE get Mr. Gegen-Wollner a series!!! He's a wonderful actor whose talents are going to waste.

In all, I give Seven Days with J(G)W five missiles out of five for a great performance, even though the character was a wuss.
