Earth 2 Frequently Asked Questions

Part 3 of 3

Fandom Information

You mean that Earth 2 still has fans?
It certainly does! Fans of Earth 2 are very active on-line, but have varying success off-line. We hail from all over the Unites States and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Brazil.
Are there any fan clubs?
There are currently two fan clubs available - Earth 2: Eden Advance and Earth 2 Foundations. They were originally one club, but differences of opinion caused a split. Many people belong to both clubs. Addresses for the two clubs are:

Earth 2: Eden Advance
P.O. Box 1695
Des Plaines, IL 60017-1695
USA

Earth 2 Foundations has not furnished an e-mail or snail-mail address yet.

What have E2 fans done to support the show?
Earth 2 fans were very active in their attempts to get the show back on the air once it was cancelled by NBC. They raised over $3500 to place a full-page ad in Daily Variety, the main entertainment industry trade paper. They then raised money to run a sky-ad over the Emmy Awards broadcast in 1995. Both of these efforts attracted the attention of industry insiders, but did not persuade NBC to renew the show. After that, we put on New Pacificon '96 to show our appreciation for the cast and crew.
What is the Variety Ad?
After E2 was cancelled, the fans wanted to get the attention of NBC, the media, and Universal. Fans who worked in the entertainment industry advised us that the best way to do this would be in the Daily Variety newspaper. We raised over $3500 over the Internet, contacted Variety, and purchased a full-page, three-color ad on the back page. It was the first time that ANY fan group had done such a thing. Although the tactic gained some favorable notice, and was copied by fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Space: Above and Beyond, our ad was the first.
What is the skyad?
After the Variety Ad, many fans wanted to do more. We raised over $500 and purchased a skyad banner with the words "May the journey continue... Earth 2". The banner was flown in Los Angeles over the auditorium where the Emmy Awards were held in 1995. This was the same night that E2 won the Emmy for Outstanding Special Effects.
What is New Pacificon '96?
Following the success of the Variety Ad and skyad, we decided that we should meet to celebrate Earth 2 and our own success. A dedicated team of fans arranged a convention, which was held April 17-19 1996 in Albuquerque, NM. Between 150 and 200 fans showed up, including some from Canada and one from England. Fifteen members of the cast and crew came, including Clancy Brown, Jessica Steen, John Gegenhuber, Joey Zimmerman, J. Madison Wright, Rockmond Dunbar, Kirk Trutner, Kevin Pike (special effects supervisor), and more. Many people who had worked on the show heard about the convention, and came just to be reunited with their friends, and to meet the fans. Among the many highlights were field trips to two filming sites - White Mesa and Tent Rocks.
Will there be other conventions?
New Pacificon '98 will be held July 17-19 1998 in Cincinnatti, Ohio. Clancy Brown has already stated that he will be there, barring filming commitments. Please keep checking the website for more information.
